Dealing with the Divorce

Every parent that has recently or is currently going through a divorce ponders certain questions. Most of these questions seem to be centered on child custody. This is probably the biggest concern of both parents when going through this ordeal. After all your children are the most precious part of your life and you want to protect your relationship with your kids as much as possible.

The first thing to consider when talking to your soon to be ex or current ex is the welfare of the kid. It is to your advantage to be as civil as possible when going through the process of obtaining custody of your children. This demonstrates you truly have the welfare of your kids at heart. Your actions speak far more then your words when it comes to impressing the court system. You need to have a plan as to how you are going to get custody of your kids and also you must establish that you are actually a part of your child’s life. Doing otherwise simply makes obvious to the judge your true motives and that is simply to lash out on your former spouse.

IF you do not obtain full custody of your kids then you are probably going to ask how you can get the most visitation rights possible. After all just because you are not officially a part of your child’s life anymore you still want to be able to create those memories you both will have together. Your visitation schedule is going to be determined by both of you and the court system. Normally it is advantageous to have both parents as part of the kids life but this is really not the case when there is illegal drugs or abuse.

Most likely this lawyer will have gone through many of these same cases and will know how to really navigate the system and act as your advocate. A lawyer is your legal advocate in the system and has an obligation to help you out as ably as possible.
